Reusing and Recycling Wood Pallets
Why pallet reuse comes first, when repair makes sense, and what can happen to wood that can no longer be used.
Reuse Comes First
Reusing a pallet avoids building a new one. A sound used pallet can often go straight back into service, which makes reuse the simplest option when the grade suits the job.
When Repair Makes Sense
Replacing a damaged board or two can keep a pallet working. Repair tends to suit pallets with limited, local damage, and it’s less likely to suit pallets with widespread rot.
What Happens to Worn-Out Wood
Wood that can’t be reused can often be ground into chips for products such as mulch, or used as fuel. What happens depends on the supplier and the condition of the wood, so ask if it matters to you.
Keeping Claims Honest
If you report on your own waste or packaging, ask for specifics from your supplier and only claim what you can document. General terms such as "eco-friendly" don’t tell your customers much.
